    The Sterling Silver Jewelry Process

I create each piece of sterling silver jewelry by collecting my own beach gems on the Olympic Peninsula. I take the gemstone home where I cut and polish it to set into solid sterling silver. After polishing the gem, I craft a design for a necklace, ring or earrings. Then begins the metalsmithing process of hand sawing, soldering, texturing, stone setting and more. It's a time intensive process to ensure that your silver jewelry is high quality and long-lasting.

    FAQs About Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is a great metal choice for jewelry compared to fine silver because it's stronger and lasts a long time.

Fine silver is 99.9% silver and is very soft compared to sterling silver. Sterling silver is an alloy metal, containing 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper which makes its a stronger metal to work with and is more hard wearing.

Sterling silver inevitably tarnishes over time, which is why Woodland Metalsmith uses a clear lacquer to keep it from tarnishing quickly.

Sterling silver is a great metal to wear everyday, as it tarnishes fairly slowly and looks good with many colors most outfits!
