Moonstone is formed when two types of Feldspar mix under extreme heat and pressure. It has a hardness of 6 - 6.5 on the Mohs scale, making it a very durable gemstone. Moonstone can be found in igneous rocks with mica (the type I collect). It's found in areas with volcanic activity so it can be found in Washington State.
